Ausangate 7 Lakes & Rainbow Mountain Trek (4 Days)

We begin our adventure with an early morning pickup (4:30 AM) from your hotel in Cusco. A 3-hour scenic drive takes us to Pacchanta, a charming Andean village surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. After a hearty breakfast, we embark on a 2-hour hike to the 7 stunning glacial lakes of Ausangate. Here, you’ll have ample time to explore, take photographs, and learn about the area's geology and wildlife from our expert guide.

After lunch near the pristine Azul Cocha Lake, we continue our journey with a 3.5-hour trek to Upis, where our campsite is located. Before dinner, you’ll have the chance to relax in the Upis hot springs, soaking in the natural warmth while enjoying views of the towering Ausangate Glacier.

We wake up with hot coca tea and enjoy a warm breakfast before starting our ascent to Arapa Pass (4,800m). This high-altitude trail offers spectacular views of Ausangate Glacier. From the pass, we descend towards the stunning crystalline lakes of Yanaqocha and Pukaqocha, where we’ll take a break for lunch.

In the afternoon, we continue to our campsite at Hatun Pukaqocha, surrounded by stunning high-altitude landscapes. After some well-earned rest, we’ll gather for a delicious dinner.

Today is one of the most rewarding days of the trek! We begin with a 2-hour ascent to Puka Pass (4,870m), where you’ll enjoy spectacular views of turquoise lakes and deep green valleys. After descending to Anantapata for lunch, we prepare for another climb to Warmisaya Pass (4,985m).

From here, you’ll see the breathtaking Rainbow Mountain range in the distance. We descend to Surineqocha Lagoon, where we’ll set up camp and enjoy a peaceful evening with a sunset over the mountains.

We wake early for a sunrise hike to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), avoiding the crowds and experiencing the valley in golden light. After an in-depth guided tour, we hike to the Red Valley, a surreal Mars-like landscape that few travelers visit.

Our trek concludes with a 2-hour descent through local Andean villages before taking our private transportation back to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon.
